For five years leading up to the WWI Anzac Centenary I founded and ran the online Adopt a Digger project researching over 2000 WW1 soldiers and nurses from Queensland’s Sunshine Coast region. This project really captured the public imagination and grew into such a significant online presence that in 2014 I was awarded the John Oxley Library History Award for Adopt a Digger.

The website adoptadigger.org has links to many websites to help you with researching your WWI ancestor. And, of course, contains the stories of those men and women from the Sunshine Coast region who served in WWI. Local historians are now administering the website and would love to hear from you if you have WWI ancestors from that region. You can contact them via http://adoptadigger.org/
